Continuing with our Film Month YH! takes a look at how some of the most iconic images in cinema have influenced some of the most iconic designers in fashion.

Avatar - Jean Paul Gaultier Spring/Summer Couture 2010 Collection

James Cameron's 'Avatar' of 2009 delivered a spectacular cinematic experience with it's stunning colour pallet and vivid landscapes it is truly visually mesmerizing. Gaultier's Spring Collection of the following year sings Avatar inspired couture, feathers, braid, tropical leaves and electric blues capture the wilds of Cameron's alien planet.

Alice In Wonderland - Donatella Versace Ready-to-Wear Spring/Summer 2010 Collection

Versace's sexy signature siouletets, mini skirts and glamour wasn't lost in the pastel hues of Tim Burton's 'Alice in Wonderland' inspired Spring Collection. Openly admitting she drew directly from Burton's take on Lewis Carol's classic fantasy when designing her pieces. Donatella told Style.com "(She) loved that fantasy land". And it shows. Pretty prints and gorgeous glitter dazzled audiences at her spring show last year.

Black Swan - Rodarte Spring/Summer 2010 Collection

The two sisters behind Rodarte contributed to the costume design of Darren Aroofsky's dark drama 'Black Swan'. Leading lady Natalie Portman suggested Rodarte to Aronofsky when considering designers he and lead costume designer, Amy Wesstcott could collaborate with because they had previously worked with feathers on earlier collections and their style was very 'balletic'. Both Kate and Laura Mulleavy collaborated with Westcott on 7 of the ballet costumes, including the black and white swan and the swan prince. In Rodarte's 2010 Fall Collection, inspired by Death Valley and vultures it's not hard to see where their Gothic homage to birds first took flight.

Days Of Heaven - Rodarte Autumn/Winter 2010 Collection

The Mulleavy sisters were inspired by Terrence Malick's 1978 film 'Days of Heaven' and the great American plains which were beautifully captured in Malick's rural drama. Regarded as a cinematographic masterpiece, 'Days of Heaven' has very little dialogue, relying on its evocative score and haunting imagery to convey the power of the plains. The sisters took ankle grazing prairie coats, quilt-like fabrics and the portrayal of wistful romanticism on the prairie  and encapsulated it in their collection.

The Birds - Michael Kors Ready-to-Wear Autumn/Winter 2008 Collection

Alfred Hitchcock's iconic horror 'The Bird's' has gone on to inspire countless film-makers since it's release in 1963. Now more than forty years later t seems the fashion world is taking notice, particularly Michael Kors with his ready-to wear collection of 2008. 'The Bird's' costume designer Edit Head was limited to using green and blue for heroin Melanie Daniels (Tippi Hedren). Hitchcock wanted the costumes to compliment and accentuate the visual tone of the film, he had planned on using accents of green during production and was adamant that the character's clothing reflect the strong colour design. Luscious greens, tweed jackets, cashmere jumpers, fur and high-waisted belts soar their way into Michael Kors' collection.

My Fair Lady - Ralph Lauren Ready-to-Wear Spring/Summer 2008 Collection
In celebration of his 40 years in fashion one of the most iconic designers, Ralph Lauren paid homage to one the most iconic musicals in film history, George Cukor's 1964 'My Fair Lady'. Eliza Doolittle, played by the gorgeous Audrey Hepburn is transformed from an unrefined, cockney flower girl to a well presented high society lady in this witty romantic comedy satire about social class and status. Lauren say's of his collection, "I drew upon everything I ever loved, and that was it". Everything from the monochrome black and white theme to the wide brimmed hats, frills and bow detailing sing 'My Fair Lady'.
